Are we the necessary cause of the reality or have we
been conditioned, throughout history, throughout our past by the
world around us?.....
Perhaps it is a give and take. But how can you set any objective
truth if everything is a push and pull...if we are subconsciously
surrendering to our surroundings and they are in turn, doing the same?

fast, easy money
Doesn't exist. There is always a price to pay. It is going to cost you in some way or another...it's just a matter of time...

are you kidding me
Psychophysical Dualism. I started bringing my laptop to class and Tuesday I took notes on this already. Descartes three argument for it. Now I am sitting in philosophy class again with a terrible hangover listening to the same thing??? Bullshit. I have a printout from my notes last week sitting in front of me. The same slides from Tuesday are still on the overhead. At least 5 people have brought up completely useless arguments or questions. Why...why me...the worst part is he is STILL talking about it.
Note to self: stop drinking and spending money on Wednesday nights.

quotes from spring break
Somehow we all made it back alive...
Taking off my wristband to give to Nathan as I'm trying to get some sleep..
Tyler: “Ashley, why is your hand so fat?”
As we are giving him a hard time about being little.
Aaron: “But I have a big heart so fuck you!”
Skeptical about taking vodka shot because it supposedly makes him throw up...
Me: “Do you have a vagina?”
Aaron: “Do you have a dick?”
Tyler: “I need a massaG.”
Me: “You mean a massage.”
Tyler: “Ya, whatever..I don't speak French.”
Bobby: “406? Ashley Davis? Shrooms?”

more Socrates...have I exhausted the subject yet?
Yes, I am working on the study guide yet again...
So people refer to it as Socratic Irony. I never really stopped to think about exactly what this means before. So irony, when refering to Socrates is using of words to convey a meaning that is opposite of its literal meaning. Dictionary.com defines Socratic Irony as "pretended ignorance in a discussion."
This means that Socrates admits his own ignorance and willingness to learn and in doing so, ends up exposing someone else's inconsistencies by close questioning.
Genius. He gives people the impression that he knows nothing which in turn boosts their self confidence (they think they know something.)
Socrates was supposedly told by an Oracle that he was the wisest man in the world. Maybe this is mythical bullshit but nevertheless, I think the statement in itself it is true. What makes Socrates so incredible is that he was fully conscious and aware of the scope of his wisdom AND also knew the extent of his own ignorance.

Anaximander and Heraclitus
I'm studying for my philosophy midterm (blah blah explaining theories and how they progressed and criticize eachother etc.) Kinda frusterating me because I don't like philosophy as an academic subject (although obviously as you can see from my other posts that I love it in general.) So yes, I am being a nerd thoroughly enjoying the occasional witty or profound quote.
"From what source things arise, to that they return of necessity when they are destroyed; for they suffer punishment and make reparation to one another for their injustice according to the order of time."
Basically, Anaximander's dark quote is saying that we are disturbing the purity of being (whoa), and must pay for this with death. Pessimistic, yes, but an interesting view point about our existence.
"Eternity is a child playing."
"The most beautiful cosmos is a heap of sand poured out at random."
I need to make a collection somewhere ha.

probably the smartest guy ever...
Telling the story of The Allegory of the Cave
".....our argument shows the power and capacity of learning exists in the soul already. Just as the eye was unable to turn from darkness to light without the whole body, so too the mind can only by the movement of the whole soul be turned from the world of Change into the Unchanging reality, and learn by degrees to endure the sight of reality, and of the brightest and best reality, in other words, of the Good.
-Socrates
The Good? Is that what we strive for as human beings? Is this Good the absolute Truth that the Sophists deny exist because they believe that morals are conventional, and relative to each culture? Socrates believed that there is some excellence that we all strive for. What is this excellence? Is it our destiny as humanity, our ultimate reason for existence? What are we going to accomplish through this excellence, this "Good?" Or as the people in the cave who know only shadows are reality...are we wandering lost in the dark, with this Unchanging reality just beyond our grasp in a superior dimension, a superior "world?"
The problem with human beings is that our pride gets in the way of our potential to think philosophically. People would rather talk about the things they know rather than ask questions about the things they don't know about. This merely proves how ignorant people are because you can never know everything about whatever it is you "know" and if you are always boasting your ignorance about what you "know" you will never ask questions about what you don't know. True wisdom and knowledge is gained by asking questions, by being opened minded to different oppinions instead of pushing your own into other people's faces...

here we go again
So, during the whole break I felt like it was dragging on sooo long but now that I have to go back to school tomorrow I feel like it wasn't long enough. I feel so crappy right now because I passed out last night sitting up on the couch and this morning I woke up wondering why I was sitting there staring at the sun outside.
And so it beings again tomorrow. Too bad my TTH classes are at 9:30. Also too bad I'm only registered for 6 hours right now and have to meet with an advisor tomorrow to try to get into more classes. Oh well.
Nothing too interesting is likely to happen today except that I'm going to a hiphop class in Austin and dying my hair.
Oh ya....we had to give away the puppy =( But he went to a vet lady in dripping springs who has land and kids and other dogs so he will be happier there. I'm just sad that I didnt get to say bye to him...
So the conclusion is that...I want another dog. Very soon.
